PURPOSE
The Olympic Development Program (ODP) was formed to identify a pool of players in each age group from which a National Team will be selected for international competition; to provide high-level training to benefit and enhance the development of players at all levels; and, through the use of carefully selected, licensed coaches, develop a mechanism for the exchange of ideas and curriculum to improve all levels of coaching.

PHILOSOPHY
The purpose of the Olympic Development Program is to identify players of the highest caliber for U.S. National Teams. It is therefore believed continued consistent identification of this caliber player will lead to increased success in the international arena.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Any youth player (AGE ELIGIBLE) in South Carolina may tryout for a State Select Team in the given age groups. You must also be a U.S. citizen and meet the age requirement for the established age groups in order to participate in the ODP (if citizenship eligibility requirements can be met by the date of the next international event that a player can participate in, that player may try out for the ODP). You must also hold a South Carolina Youth Soccer Association player card. AYSO players wishing to try-out can obtain a player card by signing up for Footskills Training with Upstate Soccer Alliance.

How are players selected?

A pool of players will be chosen from these age groups at the State Team Trials. Players will be selected and invited to go on and compete at the Interstate Games (last tryout) in January after which a team and alternates will be selected for the State Teams. These players will train on various dates and compete at Region III Camp in July. The exception will be the 1993 age group which will compete in a sub regional in June.

What are the State Select Team player’s responsibilities?
Once chosen, a State Select/ODP Team player is expected to represent South Carolina at all events scheduled by the South Carolina Youth Soccer Association (SCYSA) and Region III.

1993 age group: A State Select/ODP Team Pool of players will be chosen in the 1993 age group at the Interstate Games. South Carolina will have a Sub-region event for the 1993’s in June 2006. This will complete their year in State Select/ODP.
All players are selected on the basis of these tryouts and the games are conducted with experienced coaches who are recognized for their ability to work with players of exceptional skills.

The State Select/ODP program is a self-funded program and costs will be defined as we go through the tryouts. State Team Trials and registration is approximately $75.00. ($25.00 registration fee included.)

What do State Team Trials, Interstate Games and the Region III camp accomplish?
The State Team Trials bring players from all over the state together to tryout and make the SCYSA player pool and advance to the Interstate Games. The Interstate Games allow South Carolina teams to compete with other states and be seen by Region III coaches while completing our tryouts for the State Select/ODP Teams and our 1993 State Select/ODP Pool. Our Region III camp in July brings together players from within Region III - twelve states - and from this group a Region III Team is chosen in each age group. Region III team players may become candidates for the National Pool and compete at the highest level of competition.
