The Upstate Soccer Alliance was
formed when members of the West Spartanburg Soccer Club joined with
Saint Margaret’s Soccer Club in order to enhance the playing experience
for all the members. This alliance was
formed on the basis of similar guiding principles that were shared by
both of the organizations. The Upstate
Soccer Alliance remains an outreach program of the Episcopal Diocese,
holds fast to the church values,
and believes that any player that desires to achieve and dedicates
themselves to training can and will develop themselves to their maximum
ability. As a club, we dedicate ourselves
to these young athletes to help them achieve their dreams, and believe
that they will be (and are) winners no matter what the score of the
game.
The West Spartanburg
Soccer Club (WSSC) was formed in 1999 by Mike Kinally, and started with
a single U12 boys team that desired to step up their game.
Since that time, the club had expanded
it’s offering and trained players from micro through U18’s.
Saint Margaret’s
Soccer Club (SMSC) was a somewhat younger club (founded in the fall of
2001) that also was formed by people that desired to heighten the level
of soccer in the north Spartanburg area. Starting
off with about 9 recreational teams, SMSC quickly expanded it’s breadth
of play to the classic arena and most recently also had added micro
soccer development for the young.
Together, the Upstate
Soccer Alliance has become larger than the combined numbers from both
clubs. “If you build it, they will come”,
and the word is out. This fall season, the
USA will take the fields with 11 select teams and introduce itself to
the South Carolina soccer community at the Aiken Soccer Cup in August. Supporting these select teams are a host of
recreational, development, and micro players whose goals are to someday
also play for
an Alliance select program.
The history for the USA is just
now
being written, but the WSSC and SMSC groups bring with them a past
which
we intend to defend….
